The Rustem Pasha Mosque

After lunch, a few of us went with Suleiman to the nearby Rusdem Pasha Mosque—a small structure, built over several businesses, but notable for the quality of its blue tiles. These were a specialty in the 16th C., the blue formed with cobalt, in dozens of abstract symmetries.

Again, they asked that we remove our shoes, and leave them at the front, and that the women cover themselves.

Wonderful photos and commentary. Thanks for sharing your journey with the rest of us back home.

The tile work at the mosque was exquisite. We were able to see examples from the height of Iznik tile production. The tiles covered the walls and we were able to get up close and touch them. The smaller, more intimate setting was an interesting contrast to the vast space we had previously experienced at the Blue Mosque.
