Gallipoi--Final
7:42 PM
Ok, just a bit of the travel back and forth. Our bus had to take the ferry from Canakkale to Eceabat, and back, crossing the Dardanelles each way. We missed the ferry on the way back by just a few minutes and had to wait. Most went to look at the battle displays down by the waterfront. I, instead, popped over to the handiest pub...
and had a quick draft of Efes. I think it turned out to be the cheapest drink I had in Turkey. The pub itself had more than a few Gallipoli displays, maps, etc., including a sketch of one of the iconic statues up on the hill...
The story goes that the troops, long facing each other in trenches, got to know each other, and in this one case, a Turkish soldier carried a wounded enemy out of harm's way.
Let's see--a Turkish police car, for Jeff S....
A hillside monument of the Turkish flag...
A view approaching Canakkale (and the water really is this color)...
and some friends along the way...
